• Avant de rejoindre MINES ParisTech, j'avais déjà travaillé plusieurs années sur les réseaux de neurones, principalement en tant qu'Ingénieur de Recherche à Alcatel Alsthom Recherche de 1991 à 1996. J'ai étudié les principaux types de réseaux neuronaux, mais j'ai surtout travaillé sur les réseaux à couches. Je me suis en particulier intéressé aux aspects suivants :
  • Réseaux récurrents et algorithmes d'apprentissages spécifiques.
  • Applications en automatique : identification, modélisation de systèmes dynamiques, commande.
  • Simplification de réseau par élimination de neurones redondants ("pruning").
  • Classification : approche hiérarchique (regroupement de classes en méta-classes et classification globale par combinaison des classifieurs spécialisés).
  • Applications en classification de signaux.


• J'ai commencé depuis 2006 des travaux de recherche, en lien avec les activités et contrats du Centre de Robotique (CAOR) sur l'application des techniques d'apprentissage en vision, et plus particulièrement pour la détection visuelle temps-réel de catégories d'objets dans des flux vidéos, ainsi que la détection et reconnaissance de panneaux routiers, et aussi pour la ré-identification de personne dans les systèmes de surveillance multi-caméra, et enfin pour l'identification d'objets 3D dans des images de profondeur, et maintenant pour la reconnaissance de gestes.
• J'ai étudié aussi l'apprentissage de comportement de robot à l'aide de meta-heuristiques d'optimisation telles que les Algorithmes Génétiques et l'Optimisation par Essaim Particulaire.
• J'avais aussi effectué il y a quelques années des travaux de recherche sur l'utilisation des cartes auto-organisatrices de Kohonen (Self-Organizing Maps, SOM) pour l'aide à la découverte automatique de catégories dans le cadre des applications de data mining. Une collaboration avec Alfred Ultsch du "DataBionics Research Group" de l'Université de Marburg a eu lieu sur ce sujet.
  
• Vers 2011-2013, j'ai mené des travaux en datamining appliqué aux données de trafic routier, dans le cadre d'un projet collaboratif avec l'INRIA sur l'analyse, reconstruction et prédiction du trafic sur de gros réseaux urbains. Ce travail s'est fait aussi en partie en collaboration avec l'équipe Mobile Millenium à l'Université de Berkeley.


• J'ai soutenu en août 2013 mon Habilitation à diriger des Recherches (HdR) en spécialité "Sciences pour l'Ingénieur" à l'Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris_6), intitulée "Apprentissage Statistique et Fouille de Données pour l'Analyse temps-réel d'Images et les Systèmes de Transport Intelligents". 


• Depuis 2014, je me suis tourné d'une part vers lareconnaissance de gestes et actions (notamment dans le cadre d'une Chaire de mécénat de PSA sur la Robotique Collaborative), et d'autre part vers l'ego-localisation visuelle (tant pour les robots mobiles de service de SoftBank-Robotics_Europe, que pour les voitures intelligentes/autnomes).
• Enfin, depuis 2018 je mène des Recherches sur le Deep Reinforcement Learning appliqué d'une part à la conduite automatisée par asservissement visuel (en collaboration avec Valeo), et d'autre part à l'enseignement de tâches par démonstration pour les robots manipulateur collaboratifs.

Par ailleurs,
• Je suis relecteur pour diverses conférences et revues particulièrement dans le domaine des réseaux neuronaux (IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, Pattern Recognition, NIPS, ICANN, ESANN).
• j'ai co-organisé, avec Frédéric Jurie, une journée "Détection et Reconnaissance d'’Objets dans des imags" le 10 juillet 2007 dans le cadre du GdR ISIS.
• j'ai été membre du bureau du club CRIN "Réseaux de neurones".
• j'ai fait aussi partie du comité de programme de la conférence Neurap97.
• j'assure depuis plusieurs années un cours d'introduction aux réseaux de neurones (et aux algorithmes évolutionnistes) dans le cadre des options Robotique, Automatique et Informatique de l'Ecole des Mines de Paris.
• j'ai créé en 2007 un Enseignement Spécialisé (ES) d'Introduction aux Techniques d'Apprentissage Artificiel en 2ème année de l'Ecole des Mines de Paris, dont je suis responsable.
